Name: "Nyanko-sensei" (nickname)/ Madara (real name)
From: Natsume Yuujinchou
Appearance: This is someone's fan art but he's pretty much like this xD A maneki-neko with half orange and grey spots (don't forget the bell!). But he can transform into some people as well xD (please refer to extra)


In contrast to his maneki-neko form, his real form is huge (like about uh.. picture around half the size of a terrace house); its somewhat like a really large wolf:

Age: Since he's an Ayakashi, I would gauge that he's around 80-ish or so xD
Gender: Male (probably.)

Personality: 
First of all traits, Nyanko-sensei is a glutton and a horrible drunk. Even though he's an Ayakashi it seems to be that he likes eating human food more than normal Ayakashi food. Not once do you ever see him not eating; it's either a squid half way in his mouth or other food like dango or sweets. In one episode, Nyanko-sensei transformed into *Natsume (since Natsume was getting so worried plus Nyanko-sensei wanted to eat *Natsume's portion of meal for him) because he was minimised and trapped in an Ayakashi bottle (where normal humans can't see him nor hear him). Nyanko-sensei ate the dinner fast and even asked for seconds! And when Nyanko-sensei was asked to get the sake from the fridge for the *Fujiwaras, he was extremely tempted to drink it, but fortunately Natsume warned him not to. 

Secondly, he's mischievous and playful, and sometimes childish. Nyanko-sensei likes to play with frogs, birds, grasshoppers and butterflies. Once, he caught 3 sparrows and when *Natsume asked him if he was going to eat them, he replied wtih 'idiot! just one more and I could walk on air!' And he goes to dreamland, imagining himself apparently 'walking on air'. He also frequently argues with Natsume over quite trivial things but they never argue for too long.

Thirdly, Nyanko-sensei is slightly temperamental and impatient. This is the reason why he frequently gets into arguments with *Natsume xD Several things can make him mad, ranging from trivial things such as having his shadow stepped on when playing shadow tag (Quote: "Mu mu.. My beast blood is boiling"), to major things like the time when *Matoba (even though it was accidental) injured Natsume (refer to 6th paragraph). The most common thing that angers him is being called a cat, a buta (pig) cat or an ugly cat.

Fourthly, he is slightly proud/ conceited. He is extremely confident of his abilities and calls his real form 'magnificent', 'wonderful' and 'elegant'. But of course when he meets someone powerful, he'll know his place very well. Also, he's not much of an egoist though, don't be fooled. Quote: *Natsume: 'Hey, sensei, could you give it to him? I'll give you 200 yen.' (it = nametag and him = the boy whom they bumped into and dropped his nametag) Nyanko-sensei: ' What?! You'll give only 200 yen to someone as high level as me?! Give me the paper! Give me 10, 000 yen!' This trait of his also causes him to be a little bossy but he listens to Natsume most of the time. 

Fifthly, Nyanko-sensei is not very honest with himself. Nyanko-sensei denies that he's a cat, even though he always acts like a cat, for example, when a rat Ayakashi entered *Natsume's room, he says that 'I trained my right hook on cattails, and it'll be more than enough for a lowly rat!' When Natsume thanks him for bailing him out of *Matoba's mansion, Nyanko-sensei says that he was protecting the Book of Friends instead. Despite Natsume always constantly getting into trouble (and he grumbling about it), Nyanko-sensei will make sure that he sees through the 'trouble' till the end (of course that means protecting Natsume and etc).

Even though Nyanko-sensei has the above negative points, he shows no mercy to those who hurt *Natsume. He is protective of Natsume, not hesitating to put himself in danger to do so. This developed trait of his is somewhat similar to loyalty. Such an example was when Natsume tried to shield Nyanko-sensei from *Matoba's arrows (exorcist arrows are extremely painful), in which an arrow slightly injured Natsume's arm and another arrow hit Nyanko-sensei. This caused Nyanko-sensei to become angry, in which he decides to attack Matoba, even when he was injured by the exorcist's arrow. When he became angry, he seemed to be engulfed in the fury of seeking revenge. It shows how much Natsume meant to Nyanko-sensei. So if you hurt Natsume, you're gonna have Nyanko on your tail.

Besides protecting, Nyanko-sensei shares a really closed bond with *Natsume. After Nyanko-sensei became angry, Natsume had to calm Nyanko-sensei down by calling to him several times, so as to stop him from moving around too much. And he listened to Natsume! This shows that Natsume is like a close friend to Nyanko-sensei even though he does not directly say so. Another example would be when Natsume was down with a fever (because of an Ayakashi), Nyanko-sensei protected him against that Ayakashi when it came to kill Natsume one night, and even destroyed it for him. Furthermore, he could have just left Natsume to die and then taken the Yuujinchou, but he didn't. If he were to bond this closely with some other person/ being in ink city, Nyanko-sensei will most probably be protective of that person/ being as well.

Lastly, from being exposed to *Natsume (the epitome of kindness), Nyanko-sensei has become slightly kind himself. An example is this: After having a fight with Natsume, he fell into a hole where he found a human girl. He wanted to get back up but the human girl didn't want to be alone so she stopped Nyanko-sensei from going up. After a while it started pouring, and the girl was scared that Nyanko-sensei might die from the rain (so much that she started crying and hugging Nyanko-sensei). She started coughing and what Nyanko-sensei thought was 'They're always like this. Humans are such weak creatures. I hate weak things. Loneliness. Wanting to be together. Flickering with that weak attitude. Weak things are always unfair. Why do you cry over me? This child. And him too...' (referring to Natsume) Nyanko-sensei then turns into his real form to carry the human girl out of the hole and even brought her to the police. I think this is a really good example of Nyanko-sensei turning softer. The fact that he bothered to help her already proves that he's getting the kindness trait from Natsume.

*Natsume: Natsume Takashi is a normal teenager who possesses strong spiritual powers inherited from his grandmother (Natsume Reiko). He's an orphan and was always passed to many relatives who were unwilling to take him in. Since he is able to see things normal people don't, since young, he has been constantly called a liar. He soon noticed that those were things only he could see, thus he takes note of what he says now. Nyanko-sensei made a deal with Natsume, that he will be Natsume's bodyguard. In return, he will receive the Yuujinchou when Natsume dies.

*Matoba: 'He is a powerful exorcist who shows no mercy to both humans and ayakashi.' - Natsume Takashi

*Fujiwaras: The kindhearted couple who took in Natsume Takashi.

Backstory: Here
Basically our dear Nyanko-sensei makes a deal with Natsume. He will be Natsume's bodyguard, in return, if Natsume dies in the process of returning all the names, he will 'inherit' the Yuujinchou. He spends his days protecting Natsume (?) and drinking sake and having fun lazing around playing with natsume.
Canon point: At around the Natsume Yuujinchou Shi anime. The series is episodic so the only thing that matters is which season I take Nyanko-sensei from since he's totally different in later seasons than at the beginning.
Moral Standing: Nyanko-sensei is neutral... But he can be good as well, so he's most likely to be somewhere in between. If Natsume's involved though, he's definitely gonna be on the same stand as him xD
Dreams: As a fellow Ayakashi, he was aiming to get his paws on the Yuujinchou/ Book of Friends. But as his canon passes in time, he gradually starts to lighten this aim and turns his attention towards Natsume Takashi instead.
Fears: Afraid? Nyanko-sensei? Hmm. If I had to say.. Probably.. Strong beings/ exorcists since he did stop in his tracks due to the overwhelming power of Matoba just merely passing by. And probably being exorcised. Again, if Natsume were to be involved, he'd throw all the fears away.
Extra: This will take up some space... Nyanko-sensei has a total of four transformations:
Firstly, his real form, which is a huge wolf-like Ayakashi (refer to second picture under appearance). Normally, humans wouldn't be able to see him as his real form is an Ayakashi. But that's in the Natsume Yuujinchou world! In ink-city to make it more fun (?) let's allow everyone to see his real form! And of course, he'll have to realize this by himself.
Secondly, Natsume Reiko in her uniform (but he won't sound exactly like Reiko).


Thirdly, Natsume Takashi in his uniform (just like as Reiko, he won't sound exactly like Natsume, his speech is much more.. coarse).

And Lastly, an old man (not shown what he looks like).

Whenever he transforms, there is a puff of smoke and then he becomes the desired transformation. It is not known how long he is able to keep his transformation but seals (and any other similar items) can cause him to revert back to his maneki-neko form. Touching his nose when he is in Ayakashi form can also cause him to revert back.

His abilities are the following:
- light flare: where a sign appears on his forehead (if in cat form, in ayakashi form it's already there), and it glows blue.. and... flare! it weakens ayakashi, ghosts and other spiritually attached things, chasing out ayakashi possessing humans and also acts as a distraction. The flare lasts for about a good 5 seconds.
- transformation (mentioned), it seems as though he could transform into people whom he's 'properly looked at' (tentative)
- putting up a barrier. it was mentioned that Nyanko-sensei set up a barrier (to keep out Ayakashi) around Natsume's house. So I'd guess he is able to put up a relatively strong barrier.
- it is also possible that he has other stronger abilities; it was slightly hinted in the manga.
- his smell is somewhat like a dog's so.. (you know what i mean XD)
- he can roughly estimate the dangers of things he meet, like how much power they have and etc. his 'Ayakashi senses' kind of thing xD
- flying in his Ayakashi form

Because of the 15 icon limit I am pleading asking permission to have two accounts join Ink City, where main one (this account) contains the maneki-neko and ayakashi form userpics, and the other account (butaneko ) contains natsume and reiko form userpics. Yes I do plan to have Nyanko-sensei transform into them sometime,
